Data guides
MongoDB Atlas: see how much data you have, then export it.
Pick a system to see two things: how to check how much data is in it, and how to export a copy. No form, no sign-in.

How to see how much data is in MongoDB Atlas
- Sign in to MongoDB Atlas and open the project
- Open Data Explorer for the cluster
- Note storage size, data size and document counts per database and collection
- For the whole cluster, check the Metrics tab for disk space used
Record storage size per database; with compression it can be smaller than data size, and disk used can be larger.

How to get a copy of your MongoDB Atlas data
- Sign in as a Project Owner or Project Backup Manager
- Open the cluster's backup snapshots
- Choose a snapshot and request a download
- Download the .tar.gz before the link expires (within an hour)
- Or have a developer run mongodump with the cluster connection string
Project Owners or Backup Managers can download a Cloud Backup snapshot as a .tar.gz file. A developer can also run mongodump with the cluster's connection string to get a BSON copy.
Snapshot download links expire within an hour, raw snapshot files need a running database to read, and Free (M0) clusters only support mongodump.
These instructions are written by DataFrenzy from each vendor’s public help pages. Menu names can vary by plan and change over time; the official link on each guide is the final word. Screenshots come from each vendor’s own help pages and videos or, where noted, from third-party tutorials credited under the image; dashed outlines are illustrations, not screenshots. Looking up a size or preparing an export never sends anything to DataFrenzy.
